We offer classes, workshops, practices, and events every quarter to provide instruction and dance opportunities to students, faculty, staff, and the Riverside community. Partner or prior experience are not necessary and classes are open to anyone who wants to learn and have fun dancing.

Membership Cost: $20 for Fall Quarter (what a deal!).

Membership Benefits:

How to join: Come to Kipp's Ballroom class on Tuesday nights and sign in and pay your membership dues to the club officer on duty. For the first lesson of Fall Quarter, please plan to arrive 15-20 minutes early so that you don't miss any of the class while you wait to sign in!

Additional classes, practices, and workshops are also offered throughout the year. See classes and events or join our email list to be kept up to date!

For those who have competitive spirit, love to perform, or just want to have fun, the Dancesport Team provides members with an opportunity to compete with other colleges and universities. Competitors at all levels are encouraged to participate! In the past, the team has competed at CalTech, UC San Diego, UNLV, and the Golden State Amateur Challenge. We also especially encourage all members to participate in the annual Orange Blossom Ball sponsored by Dancesport at UCR!

We encourage everyone to join in the fun. See you on the dance floor!

Ballroom Dancing and Dancesport

Ballroom Dancing

The term "ballroom dancing" refers to any of a number of dances involving figures (series of steps) that a dancer performs with a partner. Some examples include Waltz, Tango, Cha Cha, Rumba, Salsa, and Hustle.

What is Dancesport?

The term dancesport defines competitive dancing in Ballroom and Latin dances, which are split into two styles - American and International. Expertise and experience are divided among collegiate, amateur and professional levels. More information can be found at the USA Dance Guide to Competitive Dancing.

Getting started

Attending a beginner ballroom dance class is the best way to learn the basics of ballroom dance. However, if you're interested in getting a head start or want to brush up on moves you have already learned, BallroomDancers.com has an excellent collection of online videos to help you with the basic steps of several ballroom dances:
